ARPP Christmas Lunch for 2024

Dear Arrparians,

The ARPP Christmas Lunch for 2024 will be held at The Epping Club, 45-47 Rawson Street, Epping on Thursday, 5th December at 12.30pm.

Our lunch will be in The Grand Salon. The 12.30pm start is earlier than our usual 1pm lunches to cater for the canapes and pre-dinner drinks, the 3-course lunch, the gift giving and the Stewart House raffle draw.  We hope it will enable all colleagues, especially those who have travelled long distances, to enjoy the full lunch experience. We will also be able to meet for drinks in the 45 on Rawson Bar from 11.30am.

Costs and Inclusions

Cost for ARPP financial members will be $84 ($99 for non-financial members). We are able to keep our costs as low as possible because of the support of Campbell Financial and the payment of annual fees by ARPP members. This lunch will be a pre-pay event.

The cost includes canapes with pre-dinner drinks (selection of champagne, beer, soft drinks, orange juice and iced water), a three-course lunch, wine with lunch and tea/coffee. Any drinks other than the ARPP-provided pre-dinner drinks and pre-set botstles of wine on the tables will be at your own expense.

The pre-dinner drinks and canapes will be served from 12.30pm near the entrance to the Grand Salon. Drinks will be at a drink station near the room and canapes will be served by staff inside the room.

Parking

There will be some limited parking at the Club. To use the club carpark, press the buzzer and advise attendance at the Retired Principals’ Lunch. If club parking becomes unavailable, parking in nearby Chesterfield Road or Chelmsford Avenue is recommended. Alternatively, there is a free Council Carpark located on Rawson Street (Time restrictions may apply).

Public Transport Options

If coming by train, alight at Epping Station and walk across the pedestrian overbridge and then through The Epping Club Walk (about a 3 minute walk). Also, the Tallawong -Sydneham Metro service has a stop at Epping Station.

Stewart House FOSH Raffle

We will have a Stewart House FOSH Raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the lunch. Bring some cash for the raffle. Any donations for the raffle can be advised by contacting Kerryanne Knox onkknox@bigpond.com or Heather Causley on causleys@bigpond.net.au.

Kris Kringle and Stewart House Raffle Prizes

We ask that all attending bring a Christmas gift to the value of around $10 for a Kris Kringle gift sharing.

Any colleagues who have a Kris Kringle or are donating prizes for the Stewart House raffle can place them in the Grand Salon between 11.30 and 12.30. This will help with the smooth operation of the serving of the pre-dinner drinks and canapes. (Place Kris Kringles under the Christmas Tree and Stewart House Prizes on the table near the rostrum).

How to advise attendance

Please advise Maurie Bird of your attendance by email maubird@ozemail.com.au or by phone on 0434148141 by Thursday, 28th November. Numbers need to be advised to the club at this time.

How to pay

All those attending should send payment to Noel West by 28th November. The lunch cost can be paid by Bank Transfer to BSB062668 Account Number 10152151. You might also include your 2025 Annual Fee of $50 for Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Newcastle and Illawarra regions and $30 for other regions.

We look forward to a very enjoyable Christmas get-together. This end-of-year lunch is a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues. We hope to see as many as possible at this event.

  1. TEACHER SHORTAGE  INQUIRY

The NSW Government has launched a  parliamentary inquiry into Teacher shortages. Click on the link below to read about it OR lodge your own submission.

As successful public school leaders we need to support our current colleagues by submitting a response.

https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/committees/inquiries/Pages/inquiry-details.aspx?pk=2882#tab-submissions

As an association we would like to formalise a response but the submissions are due by Sunday, 31st July.

We have a number of reasons collected already:

  • Workload of administration that is detracting teachers from teaching and learning.
  • Teaching to tests for the first half of the year with unrealistic expectations on teachers and students
  • No joy in the art of teaching – K-2 Syllabus is so prescribed that there is no room for ANY creativity by the teacher.
  • Constant “weighing of the pig” rather than “feeding the pig”.
  • One year student growth pressure placed on teachers by DET and school leaders
  • Unnecessary mandatory training
  • Non-competitive salaries in industry as a whole
  • Devaluing of the profession by bureaucrats and politicians
  • The failure of the Minister and the Secretary to defend teachers for any reason (cf to Police Minister and Fire Commissioner who defend their people when required)
  • Whittling away of the authority of schools
  • Failure to develop and. Implement well-being strategies (for Yrs 7-12 the strategies suggested DO NOT align with the Crimes Act)
  • Increased hostility by parents and students to staff
  • The failure of the DET to provide systems that are “fir for purpose”
  • Directorates that DO NOT talk to each other resulting in time lags to solve or deal with issues.
  • Increased pressure on CRT to deliver system negotiated targets.
  • Pathetic scholarship incentives that have not been updated in the last 15 years.
  • Inordinate amounts of money spent on university grads who are poached before they leave Uni…our system is too slow.
  • Inability of school executive to build capacity.
  • Inability of the DET to manage in a timely manner dysfunctional  staff in schools that cause collateral damage on all staff – WH &S, conduct issue
  • If you have any others you would like to add, please do so as we need to get this sorted . Please send any ideas by the 19th July 2022 so that we can collate them.

If you have any others you would like to add, please do so as we need to address this issue & respond. PLEASE send any ideas by 22nd JULY 2022 so that we can collate them
