As you know Stewart House is our Charity of Choice and we are strong supporters of the FRIENDS of STEWART HOUSE which raises much needed funds to support the operation of Stewart House. FOSH is also largely managed & operated by ARPP members and retired colleagues.

Last year FOSH was able to donate $17,000 despite the limitations on events imposed by COVID 19.

This year we are promoting a funding drive offering a Xmas Wine order which will raise $50.00 per dozen for Stewart House.

This is an opportunity to not only show support for Stewart House but offer the chance to purchase delightful Wines for Christmas and as presents for friends & relatives.

This extremely good wine offer has been secured by our good friend and member Brian Collins, a connoisseur of wine, who has struck a good deal with the Winery.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

We have conducted a major promotion of our membership and have now reached a record number of renewals. A big welcome to our most recent new members:

Cheryl Binns, Jan Partridge, Margaret Foott, Laraine Rylance and Jeanette Grinham.

We look forward to the opportunity of meeting with them at a future event and being part of our retired colleagues Network.

Our Kirribilli Lunch: Our 2nd Lunch event for the year took place on Thursday 3 June at the Kirribilli Club. Given the concerns around travelling during the COVID 19 we were very fortunate to have 34 members and friends join with us for a very delightful get together and a very enjoyable 2 Course Lunch with wine provided.

It was a great pleasure to have Margaret McMillan (wife of John), Lorenza Powyer (wife of Brian) and Lorna Collins, accompanying member Brian, joining with us for the occasion.

Newcastle Lunch at Adamstown

This has been rescheduled for Thursday 23 September Full details will be circulated at a later date.

Christmas Lunch at Epping Club

At this stage we are proceeding with our planned Annual Christmas celebration to be held at the Epping Club on Thursday 2nd December.  

ARPP WEBSITE

The development of our upgraded Website has progressed and our Webmaster, Aman Yadav, continues

To make further modifications to enable all current financial members access to all sections of the site. We are currently working on aspects such as Managing Retirement, Keeping in Touch, Retirement Options,

Working in Retirement, staying Up to date. We look forward to member contributions in the form of stories and reflections.

The new site domain name is rppa.com.au and the access password will be provided to all financial

members when the List of Members has been confirmed

REMOTE TEACHING SUPPORT

Member Dean Files (now living in Qld) is coordinating a support strategy for several remote teaching principals in NSW, in particular, those who have no access to casual teachers.

The concept of the initiative is to enlist retired principals or teachers to travel to the remote schools and teach for a week block enabling the teaching principal time off class to for planning & professional learning.

The participants would be paid as either a teacher or an Educator (if they no longer have Approval to teach).

We are very supportive of the initiative that has the potential to provide much needed support to schools.

 

STEWART HOUSE

COVID Restrictions have made the provision of a normal program over the past 18 months next to impossible. However, apart from the lockdown periods, we have still been able to support some 800 children from our most needy families. The physical. Social and emotional wellbeing programs have been modified and the plan was to gradually return to pre-COVID conditions from the beginning of term 3. This is now looking unlikely and will depend on the COVID restrictions and the Lockdown requirements

Stewart House is celebrating its 90th birthday this year. Over those years it has made a remarkable contribution to supporting “at risk” youth from public schools across NSW & ACT.

In order to protect the most vulnerable of our students and to provide a healthy & safe workplace for all staff, COVID and Flu vaccinations have been adopted as mandatory for all Stewart house employees.

 

FOSH (Friends of Stewart House)

The Annual General Meeting was held (finally) and a new team elected to take FOSH into the next year.

Many of our retired principals are on the committee and we are really grateful for their commitment. Last year we raised $19 000.00 even in lockdown so we are thrilled that we continue to provide financial support to Stewart House.

If any principal, teacher or retired member would like to join us it is only $20 annually ($50 for three years) and it is an easy way to support a very worthwhile charity that many of us have supported since our early teaching days and even before.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

We continue to seek your support in promoting our organisation as a strong advocate for our schools,

Leaders & NSWPPA and a continuing voice for public education. ARPP was established to provide an avenue for retirees to keep in touch and to be able to meet and share their life in retirement.

All retirees whether they are metropolitan, or country can be involved through the various groups as they meet during the year. If there is anyone whom you would like to contact, please inform Kerryanne Knox on

Draft Position paper for State Council this term:                                                            No

Dear Apparians,

Due to the current Covid situation and the limitations it places on many who would be prohibited from travel, it has been decided that the planned lunch at Adamstown on Thursday 22nd July has been postponed. The new date for this lunch is Thursday 23rd September. All other details for the lunch remain.

The lunch will be at the Gates Hotel, 660 Glebe Road, Adamstown from 12.30 pm for lunch at 1pm.The Gates Hotel is a short walk from Adamstown Station. The train leaving Central at 9.45 stops at Adamstown. This train is an all stops train. If the Sydney train you choose does not stop at Adamstown, proceed to Broadmeadow and catch a train back to Adamstown.

A two course, alternate serve meal will cost $35. We will be able to purchase drinks to have with lunch. If you have any special dietary requirements , please advise when you respond.

Those who have paid for the lunch scheduled for the 22nd July can have their payment put to the September lunch. If any who have paid cannot attend on the new date, a reimbursement will be arranged.  If you have paid  or advised of your attendance at the 22nd July lunch and intend to attend lunch on 23rd September there is no need to advise your attendance on 23rd September.  However, please advise if your circumstances change and you won’t be attending.

For any who haven’t advised their attendance for the July lunch and might be attending the 23rd September lunch, this will again be a pre-pay event. The lunch cost can be paid by cheque to ARPP and sent direct to Noel West at 62 Wagstaffe Avenue, Wagstaffe 2257 or by Bank Transfer to BSB062668 Account Number 10152151. The Account Name is ARPP. RPPA June Lunch Notice

Dear ARPParians,

You are invited to attend the next ARPP lunch on Thursday, 3rd June at 1.30pm at the Kirribilli Club, 11 Harbourview Crescent, Lavender Bay. We will also be able to meet for drinks in the bar area from 12.30pm. There will be a 2 course lunchwith the cost for ARPP members being $45 ($60 for non-members).  ARPP will also provide wine with lunch. The very reasonable lunch costs are possible because of the annual subscription payments of ARPP members and sponsorship by Campbell Financial.

This will again be a pre-pay event. There is some parking available at the club with a flat cost of $12 for visitors. If travelling by public transport, take the train to Milsons Point Station and exit onto Alfred Street South. Turn right and go to Lavender Street and then left onto Harbourview Crescent  (about a 7 minute walk).

ARPP Golf Day 2021: Friday 23rd  April

The ARPP Golf Day for 2021 will be held on Friday 23rd April at Massey Park Golf Course,  Ian Parade, Concord. The event is open to ARPP members and friends, to club and social golfers and to men and women golfers.

To give the best value for anyone wishing to play we have arranged for a social game option rather than the corporate rate.  It’s $30.50 with a senior’s card, $25.50 with a pension card and $22 with a Massey Park member’s card. Payment should be made on the day at the pro-shop and should be made by card (no cash payments).  Players are asked to bring $5 to be given to Maurie Bird to cover cost of golf ball prizes. (Exact money please to minimize cash handling). Lunch can be purchased from the club’s Family Brasserie. If any players require a golf cart they can contact the proshop on 97433737. Cost for carts is $40 ($30 for Massey Park members).  Carts need to be booked at least a week prior to the day.

There will be a Single Stableford competition and a 2BBB competition.There will also be a nearest the pin hole. The ARPP Trophy will be awarded to the ARPP member with the best score. ARPP member players and non-ARPP players are all eligible to win the singles and 2BBB competitions.

Hit off times will be from 8.30am.   All players should be at the course by 8.15am.  We should all be finished by 1pm and we will then have lunch and presentations. The brasserie and bar are open from 11am.

Those who are intending to play please advise Maurie Bird on maubird@ozemail.com.au or 0434148141 by Thursday 15th April. Confirmation of tee times required and lunch numbers need to be advised to the club at that time. Players with Golflink Handicaps should advise their golflink number when indicating their intention to play.

If you have a partner or group of four who’d like to play together, please list all names with their golf details. For non golf club members the maximum handicap is 24 for men and 36 for women.

2021 CITY LUNCH EVENTS

The dates and venues planned for our City based Luncheons have had be revised due to COVID 19

restrictions and NSW Health requirements. The dates and Venues we are now working towards are:

  • Wednesday 3 March at Sydney Rowing Club
  • Thursday 3 June at Kirribilli Club
  • Wednesday 1 st September at Emperors Garden
  • Thursday 2 nd December at the Epping Club

The Notice for the first Luncheon at Sydney Rowing Club has been distributed and unfortunately, we have been forced to limit the numbers to 30 due to Club & NSW Health requirements.

Non-Metropolitan Lunch Outings
We live in hope that we will be able to support lunches planned for Newcastle (Toronto), Central Coast (Woy Woy) and South Coast (Dapto or Kiama). Dates will be advised as they come to hand.

Visits to regional areas are still under consideration for the North Coast (Yamba) and either Bathurst/Orange or Mudgee subject to the COVID 19 Heath restrictions and requirements. We look forward to such events being able to take place and the opportunity to meet with colleagues in those locations.

These occasions enable us to meet up with many of our country retired colleagues not previously involved in Association activities.

ANNUAL GOLF DAY

It has been recommended that we again hold our Annual ARPP Golf day at Massey Park. The final date is yet to be determined. The day is open to ARPP members and friends, to club and social golfers and to men and women golfers.
A Notice to members with full details will be sent out closer to the event. Our special thanks to Maurie Bird who will again be organizing the event.
